Do you remember the childhood excitement of opening a gift of toy? And how much joy you received from playing? Unfortunately, not every child has that experience. Many children in Laos grow up with little to nothing to play with. A lot of them start working for their families at a very young age; toys and play simply do not exist in their world.
In this event, we want to introduce and encourage play among these hardworking children. You are welcome to bring both used and new toys. Our goal is to inspire and stimulate creativity and imagination in these children through play.
This event is divided into two days:
- 21 March 2017, Tuesday
On this day, we will make a visit to a brick factory in Luang Prabang. There’s a number of families that live and work at this brick factory. Children born into these families spend most of their spare time helping their parents; sand, rocks and clay are their toys.
- 22 March 2017, Wednesday
On this day, we will be visiting Ban Jok Song in Chompet District. This is one of the poorest villages in the district. There’s 54 families in this village, and majority of them survive on subsistence farming. Of the 78 school-aged kids, 40 of them cannot go to school simply because they cannot afford to buy school uniforms and needed school supplies.
